Vintage Berber 1940s Handmade Box – Hand of Fatima

Handmade from wood, metal and mirror – this piece from around the 1940s would have originally been a kohl mascara container.  The lids come off each side for storage of liquids or powders.  The middle section is a mirror – above this is a metal loop so that this piece can also be hung from the wall as a unique display item.

Decorated on each side with the hand of Fatima – Most Moroccans believe that the Hamsa, or Khomisa as it is known locally, acts as a form of protection from evil, whilst others see it as a sign of good luck.
