Known as the preserver, Vishnu is one of three supreme Hindu deities, along with Brahma and Shiva and his role is to protect humans and restore order to the world. Appearing in a number of Hindu texts, including the yogic Vedas, Hindus believe that an avatar or Vishnu appears whenever the world or humans are in danger.
One of the most popular gods in Hindu art and culture, Vishnu is often depicted as having blue skin and four arms holding a conch shell, a club, a lotus flower and a disc shaped weapon called a chakram.
