Antique Bronze Ceremonial Elephant – Bastar Tribe

This piece is hand forged by the Bastar Tribe in India.  The Bastar Tribe hold a rich history or religion, myths, rituals and art, and their bronzes are highly prized.  Made by Ghasia craftsmen who live with the tribes, Bastar has always held a fascination for the outside world – hidden by thick forests on the Southern plateau, remote and closed off for many centuries, it was considered a magic world.  The Bastar tribes have their own religion and their bronzes represent the gods and goddesses and animal figurines.
