If I could have one wish for the world this week,

If I could have one wish for the world this week, it’s that people be kind. That’s it. Just to be kind. In particular to others. Let’s not lie and judge and treat others with such disregard.

I have always struggled to understand why this simple act seems to be so hard. There is so much toxic behavior in this world, and yet humans continue to battle against each other - particularly those who shouldn’t. None of us are without fault, and yet compassion and truth and empathy and the simplicity of kindness - such important traits which seem to be so easily forgotten. Lost in the midst of hatred and manipulation and judgment. I am seeing and hearing about way too much of this lately. Let’s be kind, humans. Even if it’s just for a little while.

Siddhi powers, in the context of Hindu and yogic traditions, are supernatural abilities or spiritual accomplishments that are said to be attainable through intense meditation, disciplined practice, and devotion. The word "Siddhi" comes from the Sanskrit word "Siddha," meaning "one who is accomplished" or "perfected." These powers are often mentioned in ancient texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and are considered byproducts of advanced spiritual practice.

Some commonly mentioned Siddhis include:

Anima: The ability to shrink one’s body to the size of an atom.
Mahima: The ability to expand one’s body to an infinitely large size.
Laghima: The ability to become weightless.
Garima: The ability to become infinitely heavy.
Prapti: The ability to obtain anything desired or to be anywhere at will.
Prakamya: The ability to realize whatever one desires.
Ishatva: The ability to control and create.
Vashitva: The power to control all natural forces.
It is important to note that while Siddhi powers are fascinating, many spiritual teachers and Sadhus emphasize that these abilities are not the ultimate goal of spiritual practice. They are often considered distractions from the true purpose of spiritual growth, which is to attain self-realization and union with the divine. Many Sadhus view Siddhis as tests of ego, and they strive to maintain humility and focus on their path to enlightenment rather than becoming attached to these extraordinary powers.

In the heart of India's spiritual practices, Aarti is a deeply revered ritual that symbolizes the offering of light to the divine. Performed at temples, in homes, and at sacred riversides, Aarti involves the waving of a lit lamp or candle before a deity, accompanied by the chanting of prayers or hymns.

This ritual is more than just a ceremonial act; it is a powerful expression of devotion and gratitude. The light from the lamp represents the removal of darkness (ignorance) and the illumination of truth and wisdom. As the Aarti is performed, the flame is believed to carry the devotee's prayers and offerings to the divine, creating a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.

Participants often cup their hands over the flame, bringing the warmth and energy towards their faces and heads, symbolizing the receiving of divine blessings. Aarti is typically performed at the conclusion of a puja (worship) and is a moment of deep connection with the divine, where the atmosphere is filled with the sacred sounds of bells, conch shells, and devotional songs.
